Sunday Fun – Spinning / Indoor Cycling, Heart Rates, and Friendly Faces

While Sunday was typical it actually felt a bit better than most Sundays 🙂

With it being the first of the year I tend to adjust my classes a bit. I try to make my spinning profiles so they are still very challenging for my ‘regulars’ but also not so intimidating to anyone new that may be in class.

Even though I’m not a fan of the concept of New Years resolutions, I still always welcome new, and returning faces. Besides whether it was January 1st, May 13th, or any other day, we all started at one point, eh?

Sunday, I walked in to teach spinning (indoor cycling) and see that my regular people were already grabbing ‘their’ spots (I love my Type A people!). To my surprise, I turn and see some friendly returning faces. Even some I had not seen in a few years! It was a fantastic moment and it continued on as more and more of them piled into the room! When it was all said and done I felt like I had a great class full of my current regulars and others that I have spent countless hours coaching through classes! What a great way to start the year! It was a class that was great for the body and for the instructor’s soul!

Subject change … 🙂 … I’ve been working on my effort in class. I’ll admit to being a little competitive. Some of the guys in class will brag about how they burn 700, 800, 900+ calories in class and frankly I am JEALOUS! With my height and size (I am short and very fit) I am crazy consistent, burning between 525 – 535 calories within an hour class. Unfair!

Sunday, taking out all of the tabata drills and resistance loading I somehow Garmin 220 Spinning Calories Burnedmanaged to burn over 600 calories according to my Garmin Forerunner 220. What?? WHAT?? I was thrilled with that 🙂

(of course it shows more than 600 in the photo because someone always forgets to turn off their heart rate monitor at the end of class .. oops!)

By the way, ignore the pace and cadence in the photo. The Garmin Forerunner 220 is actually a running GPS watch (I’ll talk about it in a future post!). I can turn the GPS off and it will track my heart rate while I’m teaching but it has an accelerometer in it (for treadmill runs) so it interprets my hand movements as running moves .. LOL. It’s not perfect for indoor fitness but it’s what I am working with at the moment!

So, all in all, while it was a typical Sunday it was actually pretty fantastic! I saw a few new faces, quite a few familiar faces from past spinning classes, and burned great calories that I happily loaded back in after class!

Thanks for reading! Have a great week!
